Purple Porch Co-op, located in South Bend, has revolutionized the concept of a cooperative and created something quite special. By fundraising through member loans, Purple Porch was able to open a brick-and-mortar grocery store/café. All products in the store are local (produced within 60 miles of the store), certified organic or naturally grown, and fairly priced. Purple Porch Co-op sells food and drink from nearly 100 local and regional producers.

The café serves breakfast, lunch and dinner using the high-quality local ingredients featured in the store itself. With over 1,000 member-owners to date, this co-op welcomes newcomers who want to get involved. Some perks of becoming a member-owner include patronage refund (profit sharing), a 10% entire store discount (once a month) and product specials, to name a few.
